About Hyper Rare & Gold Pokémon Cards
What is a Hyper Rare?
Hyper Rares are the gold-etched secret rares numbered last in a set: Pokémon ex, Trainers and Energy cards printed in gold foil with a textured finish. In Scarlet & Violet sets their rarity symbol is three gold stars. The Mega Evolution era replaced them with a single Mega Hyper Rare per main set — a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex in a gold-and-colour design — so each new set has just one or two.
Cards on this page include Mega Charizard Y ex 294/217, Mega Charizard X ex 130/094 and Mega Lucario ex 188/132. The Pokémon Company does not publish official pull rates for these, but they are among the rarest cards in their boosters.
Buying gold cards from us
Each card is sold raw and ungraded and condition-checked before it ships, which matters on gold cards because their textured surface shows wear easily. Ask at admin@iconic-tcg.com and we will send photos of the exact card. UK postage is a flat £1.75 on singles. See also Special Illustration Rares and in-stock chase cards.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Hyper Rare Pokémon card?
A Hyper Rare is a gold secret rare, numbered at the very end of a Scarlet & Violet set, with three gold stars as its rarity symbol. Pokémon ex, Trainers and Energy cards are all printed this way.
What is a Mega Hyper Rare?
Mega Hyper Rare is the top rarity of the Mega Evolution era sets. Each main set has one, a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex numbered last in the set, such as Mega Darkrai ex in Pitch Black or Mega Greninja ex in Chaos Rising.
Are gold Pokémon cards real?
Gold Hyper Rares are genuine cards printed by The Pokémon Company in regular booster packs. Novelty "gold metal" cards sold online are not official Pokémon TCG cards. Everything we sell is genuine.
