About Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rares

What is a Special Illustration Rare?

Special Illustration Rares (SIRs) are secret rares, numbered above the 191-card main set. Each one shows a Pokémon ex or a Trainer in full, edge-to-edge artwork — usually a whole scene — with a textured foil finish. To spot one, check the rarity symbol at the bottom of the card: an SIR carries two gold stars, while a single gold star marks an Illustration Rare.

Surging Sparks's SIRs in our range include Pikachu ex 238/191, Latias ex 239/191 and Milotic ex 237/191. The Pokémon Company does not publish official pull rates, and SIRs are among the hardest cards in a booster to find, which is why most collectors buy the exact card as a single.

Delivery and more Surging Sparks cards

Singles are sold raw and ungraded, every card is condition-checked before it ships, and they go anywhere in the UK for a flat £1.75, however many cards are in your order. See the full Surging Sparks card list, or the set's Surging Sparks chase cards and Illustration Rares; every Special Illustration Rare across sets is in Special Illustration Rare Pokémon cards.
