How does Imperium grading work?
Imperium examines each card and gives it an overall grade, backed by subgrades. The report that comes with every card sets out those subgrades, the centering measurements and any defects the grader found, with the reasoning behind the grade. That report is the main difference from a bare number on a label. If a card comes back lower than you hoped, you can see exactly why.
Graded cards are sealed in a slab with a QR code, which links to the card's report and certification number. At the very top of the scale is the Red Label, reserved for cards that score a perfect 10 on every subgrade with centering of 51/49 or better. Imperium also publishes a population report showing how many copies of each card have been graded, and at what grade. It also offers crossovers from other companies' slabs, reholders and authentication-only services.
Which Imperium tier should I choose?
| Tier | Price per card | Turnaround | Minimum cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platinum | £35 | 1–2 business days | 1 |
| Gold | £25 | 3–5 business days | 1 |
| Silver | £15 | 10–15 business days | 3 |
| Bronze | £12 | 15–30 business days | 5 |
Prices are Imperium's list prices before the ICONIC discount, as shown on imperiumgrading.com on 28 September 2026. Check them again before you submit, because grading companies change prices.
Our rule of thumb: Bronze for a batch of five or more cards you're keeping, where time doesn't matter. Silver if you only have three or four. Gold or Platinum for a single high-value card you want back quickly, for example before selling it.
Is it worth grading a card?
Grade a card when the slab adds more value than the fee, or when you want it protected and authenticated for good. For most modern cards, that means special illustration rares, alternate arts and older holos in excellent condition. Grading a common or a card with visible whitening rarely pays. Before you send anything, go through our checklist for preparing cards for grading: surface, corners, edges and centering, and how to pack cards so they arrive as they left.
Why grade in the UK?
Sending cards abroad adds international postage, insurance, customs paperwork and weeks of transit each way. A UK grader removes most of that. Your cards stay in the country, postage is domestic, and there's no international transit on top of the grading turnaround.
