What is Riftbound?
Riftbound is a physical trading card game set in the League of Legends universe, directed by Dave Guskin — the designer who previously ran Riot's digital card game, Legends of Runeterra. It is a separate game, though: you build a main deck of at least 40 cards around a Champion Legend, backed by a 12-card rune deck that powers your plays.
The hook is the win condition. Rather than grinding an opponent's life total down, you score points by capturing and holding battlefields — contested zones both players fight over. It gives games a positional, tug-of-war feel that is genuinely different from Magic or Pokémon, and it scales naturally to more than two players.
When did Riftbound come out, and why was it hard to find?
Riftbound launched in China in August 2025 and everywhere else — including the UK — on 31 October 2025, with the first set, Origins, running to just under 300 cards.
Honesty time: the English launch was rocky. Demand comfortably outstripped supply, and the first print run had quality problems — some cards with rough edges and collation errors that left certain boxes short on rares, which Riot addressed with a replacement scheme. Things have settled considerably since. Supply on newer sets is far healthier, and from Vendetta onwards English and Chinese releases land on the same day, which has taken the heat out of the early scramble.
Which Riftbound sets are out so far?
Four sets have released in English, on a roughly quarterly cadence — Riftbound runs four sets a year.
| Set | English release | Product line-up |
|---|---|---|
| Origins | 31 October 2025 | Boosters, Champion Decks (Jinx, Lee Sin, Viktor), Proving Grounds starter box |
| Spiritforged | 13 February 2026 | Boosters, Champion Decks (Rumble, Fiora) |
| Unleashed | 8 May 2026 | Boosters, Champion Decks (Vi, Vex), Unleashed Vault — introduced the chase "Ultimate" rarity |
| Vendetta | 31 July 2026 | Boosters, Zed vs Shen Showdown Decks (the set's two champion decks), Vendetta Vault |
| Radiance | Expected 23 October 2026 | Boosters and more — full line-up still being revealed |
Beyond Radiance, Riot has already pencilled in Legacy for 29 January 2027, so the release rhythm looks locked in for the foreseeable future.
What Riftbound products can you buy?
The range is refreshingly simple compared with Pokémon's sprawl. Booster packs hold 14 cards — typically seven commons, three uncommons, two cards at rare or better, a foil and a token — and a booster display holds 24 packs. Champion Decks are pre-built, tournament-legal 40-card decks that play straight out of the box. The Origins Proving Grounds box is the true beginner product: a self-contained starter for two to four players featuring Annie, Garen, Lux and Master Yi, with simplified cards that do not appear in boosters.
Vendetta introduced Showdown Decks — a Zed vs Shen two-deck box built for head-to-head play, which serves as that set's champion decks — and brought back the Vault format that Unleashed debuted: a storage box bundled with six boosters, runes and promo tokens.
Our honest starter advice at Iconic Trading Cards: learn the game before you rip packs. Grab Proving Grounds if you are teaching friends, or one Champion Deck if a particular champion already has your loyalty, and only move to sealed boosters once you know which cards you actually want. Does Riftbound have a competitive scene?
Yes, and it is growing quickly for a game under a year old in English. The 2026 ladder runs from open Regional Qualifiers into invitation-only Regional Championships, whose top finishers earn seats at Riftbound's first World Championship. Riot is also hosting Convergence Fest in Las Vegas from 11 to 13 December 2026, and has already outlined a bigger 2027 structure including monthly store-level tournaments. For UK players, that means local game store events now, with a genuine path upwards if you catch the competitive bug.
Where can you buy Riftbound in the UK?
Riftbound has proper UK distribution through Asmodee, with boosters carrying a £4.99 RRP — so a full display works out at just under £120 at full price. Stock still ebbs and flows, and Origins product in particular often trades above RRP because of that constrained first print run, so treat inflated early-set prices with appropriate suspicion.
Iconic Trading Cards stocks sealed Riftbound alongside our Pokémon, Lorcana and One Piece ranges. UK delivery is £3.95, free on orders over £50, and pre-orders for upcoming sets like Radiance are dispatched on or around the official release date.
