Pokémon mini tins explained: what is inside and are they worth it?

Updated 2 November 2026 Iconic Trading Cards

Pokémon TCG: Mini Tin - Assorted Design (Random)

A Pokémon mini tin is a small collectible tin holding two booster packs plus a couple of extras: on most recent waves an art card and a sticker sheet, on some a metallic coin instead. At the usual UK RRP of £10.99 that works out at roughly £5.50 a pack, so you pay a little over loose-pack price for the tin and the extras. They are rarely the cheapest way to open cards, but they are one of the best small Pokémon gifts going.

Key facts

  • Every mini tin holds 2 sealed booster packs of 10 cards each.
  • Recent waves (Vibrant Paldea, Mega Heroes, 30th Celebration) add an art card and a sticker sheet; Kanto Friends tins came with a metallic coin instead.
  • Asmodee UK, the official distributor, has listed mini tin waves such as Kanto Friends, Vibrant Paldea, 151 and Paldean Fates at an RRP of £10.99.
  • Against a £4.29 loose-pack RRP, a £10.99 tin costs about £2.41 more than two packs on their own.
  • Tins come in themed waves of five to ten designs, and the art cards in a wave join up into one larger picture.
  • Pokémon TCG products are labelled for ages 6 and up.

What is inside a Pokémon mini tin?

Two booster packs, always, plus one or two small extras that depend on the wave. The Pokémon Company lists the 30th Celebration Mini Tin, out on 2 October 2026, as two 30th Celebration booster packs, a sticker sheet and an art card showing the tin's artwork. Vibrant Paldea and Mega Heroes tins followed the same pattern. Older waves differed: Asmodee UK describes the Kanto Friends tin as two packs, a metallic coin and an art card.

The art card is the clever part. Each design in a wave carries a slice of a bigger illustration, so lining up all five Mega Heroes art cards makes one large image, and the ten 30th Celebration tins form two scenes of five, one by day and one by night. That is what turns a cheap gift into something children want to complete.

Most waves are tied to a single set and carry its packs, but not every wave works that way, so check the listing or the tin's shrink-wrap if you want specific packs.

Are Pokémon mini tins good value per pack?

Not quite the best, but closer than most people expect. Using the official UK RRPs our pack-count guide checked against Asmodee UK, here is the cost per pack across the common formats:

Product Packs UK RRP Per pack
Single booster pack 1 £4.29 £4.29
Booster bundle 6 £24.99 about £4.17
3-pack blister 3 £13.99 about £4.66
Mini tin 2 £10.99 about £5.50
Standard tin 4 £21.99 about £5.50
Elite Trainer Box 9 £49.99 about £5.55

So a mini tin sits level with a standard tin or an ETB per pack, and you are effectively paying around £2.41 for the tin, the art card and the sticker sheet. If all you want is the most packs for your money, a booster bundle wins. If you want something that looks like a present, the tin earns its premium.

Real shop prices drift from RRP in both directions. Tins from popular or out-of-print sets, such as 151 or Prismatic Evolutions, typically trade well above £10.99 once distributor stock dries up, because what people are really paying for is the packs. That reflects demand at the time, not a promise that any tin will go up in value.

Why do mini tins make such good gifts?

Because they tick every box a small present needs to. They are cheap enough for a stocking or party bag, there is a real sealed pack-opening moment twice over, and the tin is exactly the right size for a young collector to keep their favourite cards in afterwards. The collectable art cards give a reason to want the next one, and the sticker sheet keeps younger children busy once the packs are open.

At Iconic Trading Cards our go-to stocking filler is the assorted mini tin, where we pick the design from whichever waves we have in stock, so the artwork is a surprise. At the time of writing it is £14 and in stock, which is about £7 a pack: you are paying for the gift format, not the cheapest packs. Should I buy a mini tin or a full-size tin?

Pick a mini tin for a small gift, and a full-size tin when you want more packs and a foil promo card. A standard tin holds four packs and a promo, so it suits a main present rather than a stocking filler. The Mega Charizard Y ex tin is a good example for a Charizard fan. You can compare both sizes side by side in our tins and mini tins collection.

How do I get a specific mini tin design?

Buy the named design rather than an assorted tin. Retailers often sell mini tins at random, especially online, because each wave ships mixed in a display. At Iconic Trading Cards our named mini tins are listed individually when we have them, alongside the assorted listing, and sealed cases are an option if you want a complete wave. The 30th Celebration wave is covered in our 30th Celebration UK guide.

Sealed orders ship across the UK for £3.95, which makes it worth bundling a few tins together for a birthday or Christmas.

Frequently asked questions

How many packs are in a Pokémon mini tin?

Two booster packs, every time. Each pack holds ten game cards, and the tin adds an art card plus either a sticker sheet or, on some older waves such as Kanto Friends, a metallic coin.

How much is a Pokémon mini tin in the UK?

Asmodee UK, the official distributor, has listed recent mini tin waves at an RRP of £10.99. Shop prices vary: tins from popular or out-of-print sets often sell for more once stock runs low.

Are Pokémon mini tins worth it?

As a gift, yes. Per pack they cost a little more than loose packs or a booster bundle, so if you only care about opening as many packs as possible, a bundle is better value. The tin, art card and sticker sheet are what you pay the small premium for.

Do Pokémon mini tins have promo cards?

Not usually. Mini tins come with an art card showing the tin artwork, which is not a playable card. If you want a foil promo, look at a full-size tin or a 3-pack blister instead.

Can I choose which mini tin design I get?

Only if you buy a named design. Assorted or random listings, including ours, pick the design for you from stock. Named designs are listed individually when available.

What age are Pokémon mini tins for?

Pokémon TCG products are labelled for ages 6 and up. The small size and sticker sheet make mini tins a particularly good fit for younger collectors.
